Monday April 12th 2004 I had the weekend off and some mates in town from Miami and Atlanta. As we all live inside nightclubs most of the time we went in search of some original culture. Word was passed down about an art happening in Topanga Canyon in LA. In case you're not familiar, Topanga is a rustic wild area just off Pacific Coast Hwy stuffed full of movie stars, bohemians and artists.

Armed with some vague directions we set off from Venice, after ditching our car infront of a waterlogged creek, we found an old rickety bridge, crossed the creek and hiked up the side of the canyon. The party was well underway, set in the middle of an artist community built on a flat ridge of the canyon. The location was really cool, tons of wild plants growing, a very laid back atmosphere, people had opened their studios and you could go off and wander wherever you wanted.

Musically the event was pretty minimal, just a group of drummers, tambourines and a picollo around the wood fire but it set the scene perfectly for this amazing dude Norton Wisdom to do his live art piece. It reminded me of something you might have seen in the 60's at a Jimmy Hendrix concert, he had a huge transparrent canvas that was back lit and he was painting to the music, constantly improvising and re-defining his theme. After chatting with him later on about what he's up to, he travels around touring with various bands doing his art to music - needless to say, Mr Wisdom is a well top geezer. We talked him into collaborating at an event in the very near future which should be wicked. If you want to find out a bit more info on the man here's his website
